Mesoscale Modeling of a Li-Ion polymer cell

Very interesting and inspiring article. For modeling 1D Li-Ion battery, 3D COMSOL Multiphysics model is developed, that contains electrodes and electrolyte. Electrode is modeled by putting into it spheres and/or ellipsoids, that are active material particles. It is studied, how active material particles and their distribution in electrode affects battery preformance/capacity. This approach is not good to use by us, right now. There are too many details, arising from modelling active material particles, to deal with.


Simulation and Optimization of the Dual Lithium Ion insertion Cell

In the article, method for modeling conventional Li-Ion battery is presented. Right now, this is the article, on what most models describing Li-ion battery are basing.

Results are compared with experimental data. Model presented includes:

  1. mass transport
  2. electrical field in electrodes, electrolyte
  3. electrode-electrolyte interface pocesses by Butler-Volmer equation
